Term 5

Week 2

Another wonderful week in Hare Class.  The children have been extremely busy creating word banks of their incredible dragon's that they drew and painted last week.  We then planned our dragon descriptions and finally, today we got to write them!  The children were so unbelievably focused with their writing; you could have heard a pin drop in the room!

We also spent an afternoon creating our very own dragon eyes out of clay.  They look phenomenal - you may have even seen these on our Instagram page!

Homework

Please can everyone remember to hand their homework books in on a Thursday

The children have some additional reading and maths activities to support them in their learning this week.   It would be highly beneficial if your child could complete these.  I have offered a Monday lunchtime homework club to any children in Hare Class who may want some extra help with this.

Don't forget to keep going on Professor Assessor and remember to listen to your child read as much as possible, taking time to explain the meaning of any words they do not understand.  We had two lucky winners in our reading raffle today - well done!

Week 1

Welcome back everyone!  We have had the most wonderful start to Term 5 with some exciting learning going on!

The children have been working incredibly hard this week with their reading skills of skimming and scanning and I have added additional homework to support them in this in their home learning books.  If you are able to read The Princess and the Dragon that would be super helpful for their reading sessions next week.

In writing this week, we have been extremely busy.  We have been writing some lovely expanded noun phrases about dragons and putting these into sentences with a verb phrase.  The children's choices of verb phrases were amazing.  We had dragons rampaging through the classroom! We also read a beautiful book called Tell Me a Dragon by Jackie Morris which inspired our ideas.

The children also spent a whole afternoon creating their own dragons with Mr Waddington and they were rather spectacular! The children used a scaffold and then drew the dragon with pencil before then painting with watercolours.  I cannot wait to see the writing the children develop next week based on these!

Homework

Each week children will be given Scode homework to complete in their homework books. They also will have reading words to practice as well as Professor Assessor which they all have a login for.

Term 4

Welcome back to the new term and hopefully you have all had a good break. We have another exciting term ahead with lots of fun learning to be done. This term's topic is volcanoes with a focus on geography.

Week 4

This week in outdoor PE we have continued with quick sticks. The children have been practising their dribbling and passing skills.

Week 3

This week we were lucky enough to take part in a workshop run by The Bridge.  The children looked at why Good Friday is called Good Friday. The children also wrote diary entries pretending to be Mary at Easter time.

This week was also World Book Day, where the children came dressed as adjectives.

Week 2

This week in geography, the children have been learning about volcanoes. In particular, they have been looking at what people would do before, during and after a volcano erupts. In pairs, they created their own survival guides on how to stay safe when a volcano erupts.

Week 1

This week the children have enjoyed starting our new indoor PE topic of fitness. They had a variety of different tasks to complete including balancing on one leg and squats.

The children have really enjoyed continuing with their recorder lessons and were very excited to learn a new song.

Term 3

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We have an exciting term ahead and hope you have all had a lovely and restful Christmas. This term our topic is the Romans with a focus on History.

Week 5

This week in art the children have had lots of fun creating their own sculptures inspired by the work of Giacometti. The children used their designs from last week to create their sculptures out of tin foil.

Week 4

This week the children have had lots of fun during both indoor and outdoor PE. In outdoor PE we learnt how to dodge. In indoor PE the children created their own dance sequences based on a God or Goddess.

Week 3

This week in History the children have continued learning about the Romans. The children used a variety of books to find out new interesting facts about the Romans.

Week 1

This week we started our new history topic on the Romans. We looked at how Rome was founded and how the Roman Empire started to grow.  We looked at the story of Romulus and Remus and the children created their own story boards.

Also, we started our new topic in RE focused on Judasium. We looked at promises and agreements and linked this to the Bible story of Noah. The children in groups then created their own rainbows with keywords about why rainbows are important to both Jewish and Christian people.

Week 2

This week in English we have been learning how to write speech sentences using inverted commas. To help us, we learnt a  song about  how you use inverted commas and the children really enjoyed this and kept singing it over and over.  The children have been using a technique called Show not tell.  This is where you show how a character is feeling by using descriptions of senses and actions rather than simply naming the emotion. We used drama to act out different ways people show certain emotions.

This week in Indoor PE we have continued to develop our Roman dances.  In pairs, one child was a sculptor and the other was a sculpture. The children  had to think about which body parts they needed to move to create the shape of the sculpture they wanted.

Week 3

This week in Outdoor PE we have been learning how to do a pivot step in netball. The children really enjoyed this and tried really hard.

In PSHE, the children have been creating their own gardens for different groups of people. The children have come up with great ideas and plans ready to draw out their gardens next week.

Term 1

Week 5

In history this week we have been looking at how it would've been to live in the Bronze Age. The children then made their own story maps of a day in the life of a Bronze Age child.

This week we finished our English topic of Little Red Riding Hood and the children wrote their own versions of the story. I loved reading their stories as they were all so unique and used lots of imagination. The children have all enjoyed this topic and have loved retelling the story.

At the end of the week, they had their fourth recorder lesson where they learnt how to play a new tune.

Week 4

This week in history we have been looking at Stonehenge and reflecting on our visit last week. The children made their own models of Stonehenge in pairs and this allowed them to use their teamwork skills, which is a skill we are focusing on this term.

Our indoor PE focus for this term has been Multi-Skills and the children have enjoyed all the lessons so far. The focus for this week was co-ordination and the children had to complete a range of different stations in groups that looked at different ways of using co-ordiantion. The PE lessons have also allowed the children to build on their teamwork, as they have had to complete the activities in small groups.

Week 3

We have had an exciting week with lots of fun learning and an exciting school trip.

In Spanish this week we have been learning how to ask each other our names. The children are really enjoying this and are starting to form conversations with each other in Spanish. Last week we learnt a greetings song that the children all enjoyed listening to, and I know many of them are practicing it at home.

On Thursday we visited Stonehenge which is linked to our history topic this term of Prehistoric Britain. The children had a lovely day visiting the stones, looking around the visitors centre and taking part in a hands-on Neolithic workshop.

At the end of this week, the children had their second lesson of learning recorders. They all love this lesson and enjoy getting to learn a musical instrument.
